Transforming your Business for a Low Carbon Future with the Industrial Energy Transformation Fund

Did you know that through the Industrial Energy Transformation Fund, it’s possible for eligible businesses to be awarded up to 50% of the capital build cost for energy transformation projects?

Low carbon strategies are becoming an integral part of modern industry. As we all strive to reduce our impact on the environment, it’s important that industrial, high energy use businesses find ways to significantly reduce their carbon footprint. By replacing fossil fuel energy with modern renewable energy sources such as heat pumps, businesses can significantly cut emissions, whilst also saving energy costs in the long term.

If you are a process-led business in the private sector, we can help you:

  • Create a solution to improve your energy efficiency and decarbonise your processes for lower emissions, including concept designs, investment requirements and business case
  • Apply for grant funding via the Industrial Energy Transformation Fund
  • Develop and facilitate your energy transformation project.

The IETF is designed to drive a low carbon future. We are here to support you in winning the funding to make this a reality for your business.

What is the Industrial Energy Transformation Fund?

The Industrial Energy Transformation Fund (IETF) is a government fund designed to support industrial, process led businesses to significantly reduce their carbon footprint in the future, by investing in:

  • Technologies to increase the energy efficiency of industrial processes and reduce energy bills
  • Decarbonisation technologies to significantly reduce emissions (e.g. switching from gas to electricity)

In England, Wales and Northern Ireland, the IETF is managed by the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS), with £289 million in total allocated to invest in supporting industry in the private sector. Needless to say, funding is aimed at supporting bids that stand to be the most transformational for a low carbon future, so the application process is highly competitive.

With our experience in helping private sector clients win IETF grants, we are here to help you devise the best solutions to reduce your emissions and increase energy savings and deliver the highest quality bid to secure government funding.

The current Phase 2 funding competition closes on 17 February 2023. We wait with interest to see when the next anticipated phases of this grant funding will be released.

Eligibility for IETF

Before applying for the IETF decarbonisation fund, it’s important to establish that your business meets all necessary eligibility requirements. Your business must be a privately owned industrial business, with key activities in manufacturing, mining and quarrying, recovery and recycling or materials, or other process led enterprises.

Your business must be registered in England, Wales or Northern Ireland, and the proposed energy transformation project must be carried out on a single site, in England, Wales or Northern Ireland.

As the fund is aimed at industrial, high energy use businesses, the minimum grant funding applied for must be £100,000, and the maximum amount that can be awarded for any one solution is £14 million for energy efficiency transformation schemes and £30 million for decarbonisation projects.

The IETF Application Process – How We Help

IETF applications are strictly vetted and in order to stand the best chance of being successful your bid must include a design, thorough programme of works and cost plan, along with data to back up your proposals.
